  1. Is this the memorial in Washington Square in Philadelphia?

    Funny thing is that it also marks the graves of hundreds of prisoners of the old Philadelphia jail, too.


  2. Yes, Washington Square in Philadelphia. The memorial is to honor an unknown Revolutionary War soldier. Jail prisoners were buried in the cemetery that had been on the grounds, and this was also the site of a mass graveyard for victims of the yellow fever epidemic. Also, it isn’t entirely certain that the bones buried here for the memorial were those of a Continental soldier.
